In order to draft with a Motorcycle or Car how close should you be?

In order to draft with a Motorcycle or Car how close should you be behind the vehicle in front of you?
In order to draft with a Motorcycle or Car how close should you be?
the closer, the better, but make sure they don%26#039;t mind you being there, if they do, you might get a brake check, and rear end someone...
In order to draft with a Motorcycle or Car how close should you be?
Drafting on other cars really don%26#039;t work. Most cars are very aerodynamic at normal hwy speed.

You can only really draft behind a large trunk. The problem is that you have to be fairly close (like less than 10 feet) and you can%26#039;t really see if he is going to brake.

====

My Audi has a MPG gauge. It is fairly accurate and it will let me know if I%26#039;m using more or less gas. When I follow other cars, things like wind and terrain makes more of a difference than if a car is in front of me or not.

Even behind the a truck, I have to be fairly close by to get any decent draft.

===

I%26#039;m assuming you want to save gas. Assuming you are suffering from bad MPG. Get a tune up :

(1) spark plugs

(2) spark plug wires

(3) coils,

(4) distributors,

(5) PVC, etc.

(6) fuel injector (carb) cleaner - important

Check your tire pressure. Get the ODB II scanned to see if it is reading and engine diag code. Sometime failing MAF sensor, O2 sensor or water temp sensor can kill your MPG. The water temp sensor is particularly cheap but a big MPG problem if it fails. The computer thinks that the engine has NEVER warmed and constantly run rich. And failed water temp sensor often does NOT create check engine light.

Forget all those %26quot;SAVE GAS%26quot; scams. This was on NBC morning TV show. The difference is as much as 38% (their claim). There are very simple rules to save gas:

(1) drive slow - not too much past 55

(2) accelerate slowly

(3) don%26#039;t brake unnecessarily

(4) use cruise control - whenever it is safe to do so.

Don%26#039;t coast - it is NOT safe and it does NOT save gas.

The above really works. Using those simple rules I was able to drive from Boston to NYC (210.5 miles) on just 5.112 gallon (94 Civic). That%26#039;s 41 MPG (94 Civic 187K miles). Actually I was speeding at 72 MPH so I could do even better at 55.

WOW !!

Good Luck...
Reply:You%26#039;ll have to be close enough to get a ticket for tailgating. Like he said the driver will need to know what you are doing or he may use some defensive action.
Reply:bumper to bumper
Reply:For it to really work, you need to be within the length of your motorcycle. It works best with a big truck, like an 18-wheeler. A car is %26#039;tapered%26#039; at the back so it doesn%26#039;t make that big vacuum behind it like a big truck does that%26#039;s sqauare at the back. You want to be off the back corner of the truck, not right behind it but beside it, so if the truck slows down a bit you won%26#039;t run right into it.

I really don%26#039;t recommend it. On interstates, on the sides of the road, you see the tire treads that come off truck tires. They did an experiment on Mythbusters that showed these things can kill you if they hit you at that speed.

I had a roommate in college who drafted trucks all the time. His bike was only 250cc, and he found he could go 70 mph drafting a truck, the truck would just suck him along. He never got killed either! We were out riding together once, we were on the freeway, and I looked around for him and couldn%26#039;t see him. I looked back to see that he was drafting -me-! His front wheel was right next to my back wheel, about 6%26quot; away. It scared the hell out of me. I pulled away.
Reply:It isn%26#039;t really measureable, but on a bike you will feel the wind die down around you, but you have to be going fairly fast. (Def. over the speed limit)

This is why it is so effective in races like NASCAR. The greater the speed, the more air the car ahead of you is going to be forcing out and over it.
Reply:the lighter your car is the better it will draft. The bigger the vehicle in front of you the better your car will draft. the closer the vehicle behind you is, the better your car will draft. I had a ford escort once that I could get behind 18 wheelers and with about 5 or 6 foot between I could literally put my car in nuetral and the semi would tow me along using the draft. However the newer cars are more aerodynamic and a lot heavier so getting a usable draft is nearlhy impossible, not to mention dangerous. Last time I tried it, I had to get so close that I could swear our bumpers touched. Too close for my comfort.

The best way to pull a draft is to get about 6 ft behind an 18 wheeler and have at least 1 more car behind you tailgating you. You should get a really good draft then, but its so dangerous I wouldnt recommend it or do it.
Reply:Tailgating is illegal and possibly fatal. All you do is anger the driver in front of you, cut down on the time you have to react in a crisis and put yourself in danger of being hit by a %26quot;retread%26quot; when it comes apart.

These people who are advising you to do it are already brain dead.
Reply:Too close......it%26#039;s a pointless and dangerous activity.

In all the years I%26#039;ve been riding motor bikes I%26#039;ve never needed or wanted to do it....I can%26#039;t see the reason why anyone would.

Your bike should be faster then anything you could draft behind so I can%26#039;t see any point in doing it......and how would you be able to see to overtake?

That%26#039;s what you do on a bike...overtake slower moving vehicles.

If the cost of fuel matters to you that much then buy a bicycle.
Reply:Check out reruns of %26quot;myth busters%26quot;
Reply:I was thinking of getting some sort of cushioned tank bag so I can get out of the wind and rest my upper body at the same time.

Seems safer than tailgating a truck and you%26#039;ll get many of the benefits by getting yourself out of the wind blast.

What kind of spark plug does a bored 30 over yamaha blaster take?

i have a bored yamaha blaster i need to know what kind of spark plug like the number is it br9es or b9es or what please help me or maybe you can tell me y it bogs out and please tell me the spark plug cuz im pretty shure i need a colder spark plug for a bored engine right so i dont know please help
What kind of spark plug does a bored 30 over yamaha blaster take?
My 2001 blaster used a BR8ES. Typically the higher the number the more heat/spark it can handle.

If it%26#039;s bogging it won%26#039;t be the plug, it would be carbeuration. If you bored or exhaust or air filter it you def. need to play with the carb.
What kind of spark plug does a bored 30 over yamaha blaster take?
Same as stock, you may have to adjust the carb. my xr500 is .060 over, nothing in the carb or ignition has changed in 25 years and 3 top ends. give it a good tune just as if it were stock. 30 over isn%26#039;t enough to worry about. maybe a 2cc increase.
Reply:The same plugs should work fine. Don%26#039;t %26quot;play%26quot; with the carb, but it would need a larger main jet, and fine tuning after a modification like that.

Is there a atv/bike salvage yard located in plain city ohio? near columbus/delaware?

2009 Kawasaki Ninja 500R?

Does ANYONE have any information about this bike? I walked by my parts area in my local delership and one of the parts guy was talking about Kawasaki re-doing the 500R, just like what they did with the 2008 Ninja 250R. I was going to buy the 250R but I am nervous about this bike coming out.

I mean they already have the 650R, so why would they do this?

Any inside info is appreciated

There you go, hope this helps.
Reply:It%26#039;s not a new MODEL, it%26#039;s just revised and re-released. They have been making the 500 for decades along with the 250, 400, 500, 600, 650, 750. They have dropped the 400 and the 750 in recent years. Note they are making two VERSIONS of the 500, the 500 NINJA, a sportbike, and the 500 LTD, a cruiser. They are making them because they expect to make a profit by selling them. It as simple as that.
Reply:Understand that every so-called sport bike they made under 600CCs has been an eye sore. The caught onto something with the new 250R so they may just bring back all the ugly bikes and make em look better. the demand for these fuel efficient bikes are high but nobody wants an ugly bike so....

This is good because it gives new riders a chance at riding within their limits on a machine they are proud to have instead of getting a 600 or 1000CC bike just because it looks better.

Do I need a motorcycle license to drive a scooter in IL?

I live near Chicago and I%26#039;m considering buying a small scooter (under 50 cc), like the Piaggio Fly 50. Will I need a motorcycle license to drive it?
Do I need a motorcycle license to drive a scooter in IL?
From your DMV:

(requires a) Class L driver%26#039;s license to ride a moped or scooter, as long as the engine displacement is less than 150 cubic centimeters. If the displacement is 150cc or more, you%26#039;ll need a Class M license.

Also requires that the vehicle be registered.
Do I need a motorcycle license to drive a scooter in IL?
if you have it licensed for the road it%26#039;s best that you go and sing up for a motorcycle safety coarse to get a motor cycle license and get a little bigger scooter (over150cc)
Reply:49cc or less you do not need a licnese. However I would suggest you contact the Illinois DMV or go on their website for a definitive answer as they will also advise you that with that 49CC or less scooter and no valid motorcycle license you will have some restrictions as how and where it can be driven..
Reply:A scooter is merely a small motorcycle that has a step thru frame and an auto transmission.Under Illinois law, a 50cc to 150cc is a motor scooter, Under 50 cc, is a MOPED, and you can ride a moped without getting a specfic license class or endorsement. Above 150 cc is a motorcycle, and it requires a motorcycle endorsement. Illinois is a bit different than most states, they have defined a scooter endorsement.

Very few states define a 3rd class
Reply:Mopeds

Motorized pedalcycles, often called mopeds, are low-speed, two-wheeled vehicles. They can be pedaled like a bicycle or driven like a motorcycle. Mopeds are intended for limited use on public roadways.

The following four criteria must be met in order to be considered a moped; otherwise it is a motor-driven cycle and requires a Class L license. If all four criteria are met, the operator of a moped may drive it with any valid driver鈥檚 license of any classification.

A motorized pedalcycle is a motor-driven cycle with speed attainable in one mile of 30 mph or less.

Equipped with a motor that produces 2-brake horsepower or less.

If an internal combustion engine is used, displacement shall not exceed 50cc.

Power drive system shall not require the operator to shift gears.

Following are some of the laws and responsibilities of moped drivers:

Must obey all signs, signals and traffic laws and most bicycle laws.

Drivers may carry a passenger only when the moped is made for two people. Equipment must include a passenger seat and a passenger footrest.

If a moped is driven at night, it must have a headlight visible from at least 500 feet, and have a red reflector on the rear visible from at least 100 to 600 feet.

Where can I find a simple black Harley Davidson hat?

I have been on the hunt for the longest time to find the classic bar %26amp; shield Harley Davidson logo on a black hat with a buckle back closure, but all the hats I find have that horrible bright orange under the bill or some stupid flame design.

My dad%26#039;s an old school biker, and loves the classic Harley Davidson merch (you know before HD worried about designing things for the younger crowd)

If I find this hat for my dad for Father%26#039;s Day, I would be labeled as the best daughter ever. Please help!

Thanks in advance!
